The National Asian American Pacific Islander Empowerment Network was designed to fill a critical gap in mental health advocacy. NAAPIEN is a peer advocacy group that develops leadership among those who have personally experienced the challenges brought on by serious mental health issue. Members have all been on their own personal journey of recovery which adds to the depth of their insight on how to improve the country’s service delivery system. They are current and future leaders who will play a critical role in insuring that those with mental health problems receive the quality of care they deserve
Can Truong serves as the Project Director and is a nationally recognized leader and peer advocate. NAAPIEN has been very active and presented at NAAPIMHA’s townhall meeting in San Jose last fall as well as the annual Alternatives Conference in Anaheim. They were honored guests at this year’s Laughter is the Best Medicine Event in Washington DC and met with representatives from SAMHSA and the President’s Advisory Commission and offered important information on key issues facing the community.
Please share your story with us. NAAPIMHA believes that your resilience and recovery story can inspire many other consumers.
